Gibraltar

From Wikipedia: "Gibraltar is a British overseas territory located near the southernmost tip of the Iberian Peninsula overlooking the Strait of Gibraltar. The territory shares a border with Spain to the north. Gibraltar has historically been an important base for the British Armed Forces and is the site of a Royal Navy base."

Gibraltar is unusual, once you pass the border post the only way onto the rock is across the runway either by bus, car or by foot. One one occasion the traffic lights went red and spike strips were place across the road by the policeman to stop anyone driving across the road, a few minutes later a Monarch Airlines flight landed right in front of us. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me to get the landing.

Looking over the runway towards the rock:

Walking over the runway:

On another visit to the rock i decided to take the cable car up to the top of the rock to visit the Monkeys (Barbary Macaques) that have been on the rock for well over a thousand years (not the same individuals).

Going up:

Here are a few photos of the Macaques, how cute is the little one!

While I was taking photos of the macaques I noticed an Iberia plane coming into land, so I quickly changed lenses and managed to get a decent shot...

A view of Gibraltar city from the top of the rock, you can see the runway on the right:

A Royal Navy frigate turning or something:

Gibraltar is well worth a visit if you have the chance, it is very British and different at the same time. It's a place I have always wanted to visit and I have no regrets.
